TMI

I just had someone describe in detail the color of their dog’s diarrea.  On top of that, he doesn’t even have a policy. He’s looking for insurance to cover the issue that’s going on right now.

You’d be surprised at the frequency that we get those calls.

Marriage Counselor+pet professional always goes together

Posted in Uncategorized on March 18, 2010 by JJ Maverick

I used to work as a dog trainer for one of the major pet store chains. During my time there I always said I was going to go to school, become a marriage counselor, and then open up a combined dog training/marriage counseling business. Why? I know it sounds strange. People always put you there though. ALWAYS. It’s interesting.

Just now, I was on a phone call. It was a flashback of those experiences. I could hear the wife in the background ordering the husband around. There was bickering over the email address.

It was a chanllenge to not crack up and ask them how long they’ve been married for.

Actually Posting

Hey guys, I’ve hijacked the blog! This is Joe, and you will see me actually posting from now on. I keep saying I need to blog about my experiences with customers in the pet industry, and now I’m actually doing it.

Just a little back info for you: I currently work phone customer service for a pet insurance company, and also help run a playgroup for people with bully breeds. In the past I’ve done retail, dog training, pet sitting, and dog walking.

So, sit back and get ready to chuckle, and sometimes shake your head in disbelief.

How My Life Went to the Dogs

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on September 1, 2009 by JJ Maverick

It’s been a long time since I got my first job at a pet store… But one thing that hasn’t changed is how much admiration I have for dogs. As my days in unemployment grow longer, I keep trying to find ways to fill them. What better to strike boredom down than a day out with the dogs?! The day I started the Roundup, my life went to the dogs.

My boyfriend and I are both avid animal lovers… Between the two of us, we have 2 pit bulls and a cocker spaniel, one grey tabby cat and one Siamese mix,  a kid, a giant fish tank, and if I had it my way… Everything else I laid eyes on. Joe’s a dog trainer and works at a local dog daycare while I rummage through newspapers and internet sites searching for work. After a long week of stress and child antics, nothing soothes the soul better than running the mutts ragged at the dog park. We’ve got alot of fun things to share, and along the road I guarantee you a good laugh or two. Or at least a few oh-em-gees.
